Plain English version: We collect only what's needed to help you access your benefits. We never sell your data without your explicit consent. When you request attorney assistance, your case summary is shared with VA-accredited attorneys — that's the only sharing that ever occurs, and only when you opt in. You can delete everything instantly. Your AI conversations are not stored by our AI provider.

Who We Are

claim.vet is an AI-powered benefits navigation tool for U.S. veterans, caregivers, and military families. We help veterans understand their eligibility, complete VA forms, and access the benefits they've earned.

We are not a law firm, medical provider, or government agency. We do not represent you legally or medically.

What We Collect

We collect only what's necessary to help you:

We never ask for or store Social Security Numbers, full medical records, financial account numbers, or passwords.

How We Protect Sensitive Information

For your most sensitive data — health conditions and discharge status — we use AES-256-GCM encryption at the application layer. This means even if our database were somehow accessed, those fields would be unreadable without our encryption key.

AI Conversations

When you chat with our AI guide, your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. We have enabled zero-data-retention mode, which means Anthropic does not store or log your conversation content. Claude is used solely to generate your response in real time.

We store your conversation history on our own servers for up to 90 days so you can review past guidance. You can delete your conversation history at any time from your account settings.

How We Use Your Information

Veterans Crisis Line

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact the Veterans Crisis Line immediately:

claim.vet is not a crisis service and cannot provide emergency assistance. Our AI is instructed to refer anyone showing signs of crisis to the Veterans Crisis Line immediately.

Data Retention

Get Help Form — Lead Referral Service

Our free tools (disability calculator, GI Bill calculator, benefit guides, etc.) are completely anonymous — no account required, no data collected, no tracking.

We also offer an optional "Get a Free Case Review" service at /get-help/. This form is entirely voluntary. If you choose to submit it, you are explicitly consenting to be contacted by a VA-accredited claims specialist or attorney who may be able to assist with your disability claim.

This information is shared only with VA-accredited claims attorneys or claims agents for the purpose of providing you with a free case review. We do not share it with non-legal third parties, data brokers, or advertisers.

We operate a lead referral service in which attorneys pay us a marketing fee for qualified veteran referrals. This fee is paid by the attorney — never by you. Veterans always use claim.vet and the Get Help service at no cost.

You may request deletion of your submitted information at any time by emailing hello@claim.vet with the subject line "Delete My Lead Data."

HIPAA Notice

claim.vet is not a HIPAA-covered entity. We are a technology platform, not a healthcare provider, health plan, or healthcare clearinghouse. Information you share with claim.vet — including health-related information for VA form completion — is governed by this Privacy Policy, not by HIPAA. We handle all health-related information with strict confidentiality and never sell it without your consent, but we are not bound by HIPAA's specific requirements. For healthcare matters requiring HIPAA protections, consult a HIPAA-covered provider such as the VA directly.
