C&P examinations are not walk-in appointments. The standard VA process requires administrative scheduling, records retrieval and review, examiner assignment, and DBQ completion — a sequence that takes days to weeks, not hours. VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) are the forms C&P examiners complete to document examination findings. Veterans can have their private treating physicians complete DBQs, which VA must accept as medical evidence. A completed private DBQ — from a specialist who has examined and treated you — can serve the same evidentiary function as a C&P DBQ, without the scheduling wait.
DBQs are available for download at va.gov. Download the DBQ specific to your condition, bring it to your private provider, and ask them to complete it based on your examination and records.
