Privacy Policy

Plain English version: We collect only what's needed to help you access your benefits. We never sell your data. You can delete everything instantly. Your AI conversations are not stored by our AI provider.
Who We Are
claim.vet is an AI-powered benefits navigation tool for U.S. veterans, caregivers, and military families. We help veterans understand their eligibility, complete VA forms, and access the benefits they've earned.
We are not a law firm, medical provider, or government agency. We do not represent you legally or medically.
What We Collect
We collect only what's necessary to help you:
- Account information: your name and email address (for login and communication)
- Service record details: branch, dates of service, discharge status — used to assess benefit eligibility
- Health conditions you share: only condition names you choose to provide, never medical records or documents
- Chat messages: your conversations with our AI guide, stored for up to 90 days then permanently deleted
- Form fill answers: responses you provide when completing VA forms — stored until you delete them
We never ask for or store Social Security Numbers, full medical records, financial account numbers, or passwords.
How We Protect Sensitive Information
For your most sensitive data — health conditions and discharge status — we use AES-256-GCM encryption at the application layer. This means even if our database were somehow accessed, those fields would be unreadable without our encryption key.
- In transit: All data is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- At rest: Supabase encrypts all stored data by default
- Sensitive fields: Additional application-layer encryption for health and discharge data
- AI conversations: We use zero-data-retention mode with our AI provider — your conversations are processed but never logged or stored on their servers
AI Conversations
When you chat with our AI guide, your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. We have enabled zero-data-retention mode, which means Anthropic does not store or log your conversation content. Claude is used solely to generate your response in real time.
We store your conversation history on our own servers for up to 90 days so you can review past guidance. You can delete your conversation history at any time from your account settings.
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used exclusively to:
- Assess which VA benefits and programs you may qualify for
- Help you complete VA forms accurately
- Provide personalized guidance through our AI assistant
- Send you account-related emails (magic link login, important updates)
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing profiling, or any purpose unrelated to helping you access your benefits.
What We Never Do
- We never sell your data — to anyone, ever
- We never share your data with advertisers or data brokers
- We never use your health or service information to train AI models
- We never send your personally identifiable information to third parties except as required to operate the service (see below)
Third Parties We Use
We use a small number of trusted providers to operate the service:
- Supabase — secure database and authentication (data stored in US East region)
- Anthropic — AI responses (zero-data-retention mode enabled; no PII stored)
- Resend — transactional email delivery (login links only)
None of these providers receive data beyond what is necessary for their specific function.
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Access: view all information we hold about you in your account profile
- Correction: update any information at any time from your profile settings
- Deletion: permanently delete your account and all associated data instantly — one click in account settings cascades through every table we hold
- Portability: contact us to request a copy of your data in JSON format
These rights apply regardless of your state of residence. California residents have additional rights under CCPA — we honor all of them.
Veterans Crisis Line
If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact the Veterans Crisis Line immediately:
claim.vet is not a crisis service and cannot provide emergency assistance. Our AI is instructed to refer anyone showing signs of crisis to the Veterans Crisis Line immediately.
Data Retention
- Chat messages: automatically deleted after 90 days
- Account and profile data: retained until you delete your account
- Form fill data: retained until you delete it or your account
- Waitlist entries: retained until you request removal
