Program Overview
The Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) provides a monthly stipend, training, mental health services, and travel expenses to approved family caregivers of eligible veterans. This is paid directly to the caregiver, not the veteran.
✅ Veteran Eligibility
- Served on or after September 11, 2001 (post-9/11) OR
- Served on or before May 7, 1975 (Vietnam-era or earlier)
- AND has a serious injury or illness incurred/aggravated in line of duty
- AND needs help with at least 1 Activity of Daily Living (ADL) OR supervision due to residuals of traumatic brain injury
✅ Caregiver Eligibility
- At least 18 years old
- Family member or lives with the veteran full-time
- Complete VA caregiver training
- Designated as Primary or Secondary Family Caregiver
Benefits Included
💰 Monthly Stipend
Based on veteran's disability rating and location. Ranges from $800 to $3,800/month (varies by tier and region)
🏥 Healthcare Coverage
CHAMPVA health insurance for Primary Family Caregiver (if not eligible for other coverage)
🎓 Training & Support
Comprehensive caregiver training, mental health services, and respite care
✈️ Travel Reimbursement
Lodging and per diem when traveling with veteran to VA medical appointments
